CBS Tailors Reality Show for Hilfiger Fashion designer/brand name Tommy Hilfiger is turning to CBS to help him find a new designer.The network announced Friday (Aug. 27) that Hilfiger will host an unscripted series, tentatively titled "The Cut," that aims to find "the next great American designer." The show is set to bow at midseason."The Cut" will take 16 would-be designers and put them up in a loft in New York's Soho neighborhood. They'll take part in a series of challenges designed to show off not only their talent for design but also their business and marketing skills. Hilfiger and a "Style Council" -- a group of industry experts, not the New Wave band -- will judge the competition and send one person home each week.The winner gets a chance to design his or her own collection for the Hilfiger label. "He's a cutting-edge designer who ... will bring his All-American style to network television and provide a fantastic environment for the participants to realize their artistic dreams and visions.""The Cut" is similar to a Bravo series called "Project Runway" that scheduled to debut in November. That show, hosted by model Heidi Klum, also focuses on aspiring designers and awards the winner a fashion spread in Elle magazine and a mentorship with Banana Republic.Lions Gate TV and Pilgrim Films and Television are producing "The Cut." Craig Piligian, a "Survivor" veteran who currently exec produces "American Chopper," will executive produce with Darren Maddern and Peter Connolly, Hilfiger's head of marketing.
